National Treasure fills the wait for Indy

Though told entirely from Bauby's imprisoned perspective, it finds plenty of room, via flashbacks, fantasies and hospital visits, to address his relationships with his ex-partner (Emmanuelle Seigner), mistress, friends, and crusty invalid father (Max Von Sydow).

Spearheaded by Amalric's towering minimalism, it's a supremely well acted work. Retaining his humour, through often wry interior monologues we see Bauby wrestle with his guilt, self-pity, conflicted emotions, and memories in a way that rises beyond his situation to become an unsentimental celebration of what matters in life and the stubborn determination not to let casual fate wipe it away in the blink of an eye.

Elves, princesses, mobsters and monsters crowd Hollywood's holidays

This time of year is Hollywood's most diverse, offering a mix of dark drama vying for Academy Award attention, action, horror and fantasy sagas, and light comedy and animated films. The season offers a couple of real-world holiday stories with "This Christmas," a family-reunion flick whose ensemble cast includes Delroy Lindo, Regina King and Mekhi Phifer, and "The Perfect Holiday," featuring Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, Queen Latifah and Terrence Howard in a romance between a single mom and a store Santa. In his first big project since his sitcom went off the air, Seinfeld also co-wrote "Bee Movie," the idea stemming from his childhood fascination for nature documentaries. Seinfeld liked the drama -- and unintentional laughs ---- those shows brought to the natural world."I found them kind of funny, because they make one species the hero.

Big-ticket bikes: Why buy a Chevette when you can have a Ferrari?

Sandro doesn't want you to know where he lives, where he works or even what his last name is. He has a secret - a lie, some might call it - that mustn't get out.

But here it is anyway: Sandro paid $7,000 for a bicycle. Why the cloak-and-dagger act?

"My wife would probably kill me if she knew," he says discreetly from work. "I told her I bought it with my sister."

Like many big-spending weekend warriors, he fell for Cannondale Bicycle, a company whose bikes have been ridden to stage victories at the Tour de France and world championships in mountain biking.

"Why have a Chevette when you can have a Ferrari?" says Sandro, who rides a few hours a week during the warmer months to keep in shape.

On Monday, Montreal-based Dorel Industries announced a deal to buy Cannondale for about $200-million (U.S.).

Miscalculations dogged Romney from the start

Charisma is always more important that experience in an elections. Experience in nuanced areas foreign policy of foreign policy will be left to the Brzezinskis and Kissingers of this word. What the USA needs is a change in public perception and from over here it looks like Obama is the only candidate who can provide that. Both McCain's and Hillary's past involvement in some pretty sleazy scandals will probably continue to haunt them.

Celtic snap up Samaras and Mizuno

Georgios Samaras has set his sights on a starring role at Euro 2008 after completing a loan move to Celtic from Manchester City.

The 22-year-old has joined the Hoops for the remainder of the season and is desperate to win a place in the Greece squad for the summer tournament in Austria and Switzerland. His chances appeared to be on the slide after struggling to hold down a regular place in the Manchester City team - he has made only two league starts for Sven-Goran Eriksson's side this season - but he hopes his move to Scotland will provide the opportunity to impress the Greece coach Otto Rehhagel.
