| LOVE MY CAR: 1966 Corvette
I grew up in Detroit loving all cars. I loved Corvettes the most, especially the Sting Ray of 1963-1967 vintage, so-called a C2 in Corvette lingo. My dreams became a reality when I was able to get a slightly used 1965 Nassau blue convertible Corvette in 1966. Unfortunately, money got tight and I was forced to sell it in 1970 and get something less expensive to maintain with better gas mileage. Marriage, two daughters, their college expenses and two weddings kept me from reliving my dream until 1999. By then my job had taken me to Dallas. While the new ones are great, I could never forget the C2 I had. So after a several-month search I bought a 1966 white Corvette convertible but it needed a lot of work. New paint and lots of other restoration work I enjoy doing myself have turned this into an exceptional car that I enjoy driving with my friends to weekend car shows all around Dallas from March through November.
Thieves hack off priest's 'magic' leg
POLICE in southern India are hunting two men accused of hacking off and stealing the right leg of a Hindu priest which he claimed had magical powers, they said today. Last week the two men allegedly visited 80-year-old priest Yanadi Kondaiah and got him drunk before chopping off his right leg with a sickle, local police official Pendakanti Dastgiri said. The priest was discovered by villagers and rushed to hospital, where he is reported to be responding well to treatment. "Kondaiah told us that he ekes out livelihood by soothsaying in his native village" near the town of Tirupati in India's Andhra Pradesh state, the police official said. "He claims his right leg possessed a rare mystic power which makes his predictions come true. The locals believe in his powers to cure spiritual and physical ailments," added Dastagiri, a police sub-inspector.

Residents describe meteor sighting
My first thought was a plane explosion," Baldo said, who lives on the east side of town. "It was about where I see Horizon planes. It was a flash and then it was gone." She felt, rather than heard, the sonic boom which accompanied the meteor because she was listening to a book on her MP3 player. "I felt a jolt," Baldo recalled. "It was so fast, it startled you" she said of the flash of light. Hermiston resident Gary Lovell said he saw a blue-turquoise light about 5:45 a.m. outside of the doors on his house off of W. Punkin Center Road. The light Lovell saw, however, was slow. "That's what intrigued me, it took a long time before the light disappeared," Lovell said. He heard a distant sonic boom, but his wife, Caroleen, who was in another part of the house at the time, heard and saw nothing.
Bailey likely to become sheriff 8:43 AM
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A majority of Mecklenburg County commissioners say they're likely to name Chipp Bailey as sheriff during their Tuesday meeting. The four Republicans on the nine-member board say they plan to support Bailey, so having at least one Democrat join them would give the group enough votes to make the appointment. Vice chair Parks Helms and Norman Mitchell, both Democrats, said Sunday they plan to vote for the appointment Tuesday, as long as county lawyers give their OK. Helms said he believes the controversy over the sheriff's race has lasted long enough. .
